We have Osteopaths in our rooms! Wait… What is it?

‘The study of biomechanics – how each part of the musculoskeletal system interacts with and influences every other part’
In laymans terms, Osteopathy treats the entire body, not just the area of injury. For example, you could injure an ankle, and an Osteopath treatment would see that the spine, neck, hips, knees, all stay in alignment so as to not to be negatively affected by the ankle injury. This is commonly seen when favouring one side of the body due to a limp etc.
Osteopathy can treat and manage a variety of conditions, such as –
- Sports Injuries
- Headaches
- Back pain and Neck pain
- Arthritis
- Uncomfortable Pregnancy Symptoms
- Sciatica
- Repetitive strains and aches from older injuries
Osteopathy is based 100% around the musculoskeletal system. This comprises of bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue – one single body. When you think of these areas inside the body, you can imagine that they are all connected!
We are so happy to introduce Osteopathy to our services with Nadia Makouri. Nadia has extensive experience in soft tissue and she commonly uses techniques such as adjustments, fascial release, craniosacral, visceral & functional osteopathic techniques where appropriate. Her initial training also included the management of pregnancy and paediatrics.
The Osteopathic philosophy is a holistic approach to health, with its main aim being to support the body’s self-healing capacity. When treating the whole musculoskeletal body, an Osteopath will use many different methods of treating the patient. These include:
- Muscle and joint stretching
- Spinal manipulation
- Soft tissue massage
- Muscular energy techniques, which work by encouraging the muscles to work against resistance
- Gentle joint movements
- And assisting the movement of the abdominal and pelvic areas
